What is a financial counsellor and what can we do for you?

Financial Counselling is the process by which trained financial counsellors offer support, information, advocacy and negotiation on behalf of consumers of credit.

Financial counsellors recognise that often, debt occurs as a result of a life crisis, as well as fixed and low income earners being encouraged to over-extend themselves financially by providers of credit.

Why do people need financial counselling?

People can find themselves in debt for a number of reasons, generally not related to their own money management.

Some examples of why you may need financial counselling are:

  • Job Loss
  • Buying on Credit – Overcommitment
  • Living on income support – Centrelink
  • Relationship breakdown
  • Harrassment from debt collectors
  • Ill health
